The resorts are the place for 5-star cuisine, but for people looking for delicious, authentic Mexican unlike what you can get anywhere else, getting off the main drag is a must. For example, a local favorite in downtown Cancun is Julia Mia, an upscale twist on down home, local cuisine, complete with local mariachis serenading the patrons.

There are a number of retail outlets and outdoor markets where travelers can try their hands at haggling for the best prices on locally produced jewelry and handicrafts. NeutraSal: Dental Tool Brings Relief To Cancer Patients

Update from Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

NeutraSal to relieve the pain of OM

Many people mentally separate the field of dentistry from that of medicine in their minds, but dental professionals understand the serious medical importance of dentistry. Frequently, dentists and dental hygienists will be instrumental in detecting cancers of the thyroid through routine head and neck exams. Not only are dental professionals important in the detection of these cancers, but in their treatment. A recent article in Dentistry IQ discusses one area in which dentistry is instrumental in the treatment of cancer patients: oral mucositis (OM).

Most patients diagnosed with cancer will undergo some form of chemotherapy or radiation treatment. While important in fighting off the cancer, the treatments can leave behind painful, swollen oral tissues, or OM. OM can cause a great deal of pain for patients and cause difficulty swallowing. Confluent mucositis, a severe case of the condition, can cause the patient’s entire mouth to be coated in white mucus up to a thickness of 1mm.

OM is very common, affecting 400,000 cancer patients including 40% of patients undergoing chemotherapy, and virtually all patients undergoing conventional radiation therapy. The condition usually manifests in the days after a treatment can last up to six weeks.

Dentists have a number of tools at their disposal to treat patients suffering from oral mucosa. One of these is NeutraSal, a powder that is dissolved in water, creating a mouth rinse that is supersaturated with phosphate ions and calcium. The ions moves into intercellular spaces in the epithelium and permeate the lesions caused by the mucositis. The solution mimic natural saliva as a way restore ionic and pH balance to the mouth, and bringing relief to the patient. NeutraSal is most effective when used at the beginning of treatment for cancer, to begin the early healing of OM tissue.

Helping Patients To Want The Care They Need

Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

Help Patients to feel more comfortable at the Dentist’s office

According to a recent article at Dental Economics, the average case acceptance for dentists is only about 23%. What that means is that dentists are making detailed care plans for patients, and nearly 70% of those patients are saying “We’ll see..” and walking out the door, never to be heard from again.  According to dentist Michael Kesner, turning those numbers around means understanding the psychology behind why patients decide to pay for what they pay for.

Kesner knows a thing or two about the subject. His practice is  Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest growing companies in America. According to Kesner, patients are much more willing to pay for what they want rather than what they need.

The trick is to get the patient to want what is necessary, and that means understanding that what a patient decides to pay for is predominantly an emotional decision. According to Kesner only 15% of a dental decision is based upon the facts of their condition. The bulk of the decision rests upon how they feel about their dental problem, their dentist, the office, etc.

Kesner says that educating the patient on dentistry is clearly not going to be what convinces your patient to do the right thing, and yet that is primarily what most dentists focus upon when laying out a plan for a patient. Instead, he says, dentists need to connect to their patients on an emotional level. Are your patients scared of the procedure? Are they confused about what this means for their health or their looks? Are you adequately articulating the negative consequences of not having the procedure performed? These are the questions that dentists need to address in order to appeal to a patient’s emotions, because ultimately how they feel about these things will be what drives them to make the decision.

Most resorts offer packages for newlyweds with one upfront payment for room, food, drinks, and activities. This allows the newly married to take advantage of all that Cancun has to offer without worrying about keeping track of cash and credit cards. One hotel that offers such a package is the Hard Rock Hotel Cancun. While decked out with rock memorabilia, the hotel still maintains a sleek, modern design that is inviting, giving the place a sleek, “Cancun-meets-Vegas-meets-South-Beach vibe.” Rooms for honeymooners feature amenities such as double-hydro tubs, top-shelf bar, and around the clock room service. Couples can also enjoy romantic dinners for two, a couple’s massage at the resort’s Rock Spa, and breakfast in bed. The Hard Rock has an edge, but it is family friendly. Periodyne: A Natural Solution For Gum Health

Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry’s new Blog post

Periodyne to improve Gum Health

The consumer market for oral health has increasingly moved towards natural products. Consumer demand is high for products that are perceived to be less invasive and less reliant on chemicals. Dentists are left attempting to making recommendations to curious patients while not always thrilled with the options on the market.

In a recent article on DentistryIQ, writer and editor Erin Robinson gave positive notes to Periodyne, a natural, therapeutic option for increased periodontal health. The product is designed for home use, and consists of capsules full of  a patented blend of cetylated oils. The capsules are cut open and the oils are delivered directly to the gums.

A multi-center clinical trial was conducted testing Periodynes effectiveness on patients suffering from long-term periodontal issues for whom scaling at regular hygiene appointments was insufficient. After just one month of use, patients using Periodyne saw reductions in bleeding upon probing of 87%. Additionally, 48% of periodontal pockets with a depth greater than 3 mm were reduced to 3 mm.

For roughly half of patients, regular hygiene appointments are enough to maintain healthy gingiva. Periodyne is meant for the other half of patients for whom these appointments are simply not enough. The product helps with the restoration of gingival tissue by decreasing or eliminating the bleeding upon probing that is likely to result from red, swollen tissue. Regular Periodyne use promotes the formation of healthy pink gingival tissue.

Aside from helping to restore soft tissue, a 2009 study from Boston University seems to suggest that Periodyne’s cetylated oil blend can help with bone restoration. With this combination of health benefits, its easy application, and its crowd-pleasing “natural” status, Periodyne has the potential to be a hit with patients.

Update from Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

Nizuc Resort & Spa

In a recent article on Yahoo Travel, the Nizuc Resort & Spa is described as being Mexico’s Camp David. This is because until 2005 the site served as the location of the official presidential retreat. Even now the luxury resort has a secluded, and exclusive air about it that makes it feel presidential – so much so, that Mexico’s current president, Enrique Peña Nieto, is reported to have stayed there.

Nizuc attract guests of all types from all over the world. Aside from the president of Mexico, the resort has attracted other high profile guest such as Kevin Spacey and Robert Iler from “The Sopranos.”

A large wall protects the whole of the resort from those on the outside, with a large wooden gate that opens to welcome visitors. Nizuc is situated on a peninsula that lies between Laguna Nichupté and the Caribbean Sea at the entryway of the Riviera Maya, placing it far away from the hustle and bustle of Cancun’s busy hotel zone. The result is a peace and relaxing respite far away from the partying ‘spring-breaker’ crowd.

The resort features 274 total suites, including residential suites, ocean suits, and garden pool villas. The ocean view suites described in the Yahoo article are spacious accommodations with a muted, understated decor to instill a sense of tranquility for the guest.

When it comes to luxury, it is the little things that make all the difference. Nizuc knows that gives special attention to the details that turn a nice resort into something special. The staff at the hotel is especially thoughtful and accommodating, providing treats with turndown service, transportation around the grounds, and other subtle touches. The staff has a ritual of placing their hands over their heart and nodding as guests and even co-workers walk past – a sign of affection and respect.

Marketing Your Practice: Sports Dentist

Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry’s new Blog post

Sports Dentistry

For a dentist, finding a way to increase demand for your services can be tough. Marketing yourself in such a way as to stand out from the rest of pack can be difficult and cause your revenues to flatline.

In a recent article for Dental Economics, Ray Padilla, DDS, a faculty member at the UCLA school of dentistry suggests offering a specialty service for which competition would be minimal. Padilla believes that lack of services in the area of sports dentistry makes it a prime opportunity for dentists to fill a void in the market.

Sports dentistry primarily deals with the treatment and prevention of sports related dental injuries including avulsed, fractured or luxated teeth (maxillary incisors, in particular), along with injuries to soft tissue. The treatment of those and other injuries is paired with prevention services, significantly the creation of custom mouthguards that meet the regulations of the sport in question.

Participation in sports, Padilla argues, is a mainstay of all health professions that require specialty services. Dentistry is no different. On the professional level this is well acknowledged, with most pro teams employing a dentist. On the high school, collegiate, and semi-pro levels this is usually not the case. As a result many localities do not have anyone in the area that specializes in this area of dental care.

In the fabrication of custom mouthguards, a dentist can market his or herself as a sports dentistry specialist. Padilla says that a dentist creating only 50 mouthguards per year can save up to $4,500 in laboratory fees by purchasing the proper in-house equipment. The creation of other guards, such as night guards, increase those savings. These economic benefits along with the increase invisibility amongst a new demographic of patients makes it possible to greatly increase revenue for your practice.

Improving Your Smile, The Basics

Latest update from Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is becoming more and more popular today.  There are so many fixes to a smile that can be made, whether it be whitening, straightening, closing gaps, or even replacing teeth.  Now there are various procedures that can take place in order to fix these problems.  It is important to understand the problem you see with your teeth and make sure you elect for the right operation in order to fix it.  Lets take a look at some of the options you have to correct your smile.

First is your basic teeth whitening.  Don’t you just hate that light stain look drinking coffee can leave?  Teeth whitening can fix that.  Teeth whitening is designed to help teeth that have become stained or discolored over time.  The great part about teeth whitening is that while it can be done at the dentists office, the dentist can also provide you with a system to use at home.  While whitening at home can take a couple of weeks to see results, if you have the whitening done in the dentists office, you can have results in hours.

Next we will take a look at bonding.  Bonding typically fixes gaps between teeth as well as chipped, broken, stained or cracked teeth.  Bonding can fix your teeth for many years down the road but it is also known to wear down eventually.  Materials used for bonding can also be used to fill small cavities.

Finally, lets take a look at veneers.  Veneers are made to cover the front side of teeth, often changing the color and shape of the tooth.  They are made out of porcelain but sometimes can be plastic as well.  If you are very worried about your teeth, you should go with veneers as opposed to bonding because veneers will last longer and give off a better look.  Veneers can fix everything bonding can all the while be less expensive than crowns.  Its a great alternative.
